Ancient Order Of Hibernian’s
Fire Fighter John J. Redmond
Division 22 Philadelphia

Welcome
The Ancient Order of Hibernians is a Catholic, Irish American Fraternal Organization founded in New York City 4 May,1836. The Order can trace its roots back to a parent organization, of the same name, which has existed in Ireland for over 300 years. However, while the organizations share a common thread, the North American A.O.H. is a separate and much larger organization.
A Brief History of Our Division
Division 22 was founded on March 6,1997 . When
Twenty six Philadelphia Firefighters decided to
expand their Irish heritage. The number 22 coincides
with local 22 of the Firefighters union and also dates
back to the days of the Hibernian Hose Companies
Engine 22 when the Philadelphia Fire Department
was made up of volunteer companies. Engine 22 is
still in service to this very day.
The Division chose to honor John Redmond, a
firefighter who had made the supreme sacrifice 16
years ago by giving his life so others might live ,
while fighting a fire in 1994 at the Rising Sun Baptist
Church in South Philadelphia . His spirit lives on
through the work we do.
